Nina is a black scraggly poodle mutt weighing in at a whopping 12 pounds. Tricia and I picked her up from the Savannah Humane Society a couple weeks ago, with the idea that Tricia would foster her. I was just going along with it. I am sure by now you know the rest of the story. But not quite…

Nina was apparently picked up as a stray, but is completely housebroken and leash trained. She has been socialized around kids and other dogs. She also has heartworm, which has been the ordeal that she is going through daily. This consists of rounds of big needle shots and super strong heartworm meds with arsenic and steroids twice daily. You can imagine what that might do to a little ball of fur weighing 12 lbs. She is getting better every day, but it is tough on her. She sleeps most of the day and is lethargic, but unbelievably affectionate and each day gets just a little perkier. All that said, she fits so well into our household and has already made such an impact on our lives. Yes, she will be adopted permanently by us. We are already making plans to have X-rays in a couple weeks to make sure she is heartworm free. Now, I can’t imagine this house without her.
