Just returned from a week in St. Petersburg, FL. This very vibrant and young city seems to be in the throes of creating a new identity based on food, youth, and art. All fun and infectious! St. Petersburg and its environs are an interesting mix of old and new architecture. Galleries are surfacing in historic areas that are being gentrified and reused. We also had the rare opportunity to see Mike Leigh’s film, Mr. Turner, which was a feast for the eyes. Anyone that appreciates Art and British filmmaking will enjoy this movie. I hope that you might get the same opportunity to view it on a big screen. Richard Pope’s cinematography was stunning. Three days later we were still talking about details and looking up bio points about Turner and his intense process. This was a truly gorgeous movie with great acting and creative biographical vignettes. Ridiculous that it did not win an Academy Award.
